Five principles for lifelong learning

A new publication sets out five principles of CPD and lifelong learning for individuals, employers and organisations.

Published by the College of Paramedics and based on research by the Interprofessional CPD and Lifelong Learning UK Working Group, the document establishes that CPD and lifelong learning should:

  1. Be an individual responsibility, made possible and supported by employers
  2. Benefit service users
  3. Improve the quality of service delivery
  4. Be balanced and relevant to each individual’s area of practice or employment
  5. Be recorded and show the effect on each person’s area of practice

The document is a result of a year of interprofessional collaboration. The principles are designed as guidance to create a culture of continuous improvement, workforce development and improved outcomes.
